A Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente integrou as atribuições e competências do ex-Instituto do Ambiente e do ex-Instituto dos Resíduos. Em consequência, os sistemas de informação existentes, SIPO e SIRER, foram integrados num sistema único, o SIRAPA - Sistema Integrado de Registo da Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente.
